4kW Price: On-Grid, Hybrid and Off-Grid
| Option | Price | Subsidy | Price after subsidy |
| On-grid | ₹2,08,800 – ₹2,55,200 | ₹78,000 | ₹1,30,800 – ₹1,77,200 |
| Hybrid (with battery) | ₹2,59,200 – ₹3,16,800 | ₹78,000 | ₹1,81,200 – ₹2,38,800 |
| Off-grid | ₹3,06,000 – ₹3,74,000 | ₹0 | ₹3,06,000 – ₹3,74,000 |
Delhi and Uttar Pradesh add ₹30,000 and Assam ₹45,000 at this size. The installed price covers eight 550 W panels, a 4 kW inverter, structure, wiring, earthing and fitting.
Who Outgrows 3kW?
Homes using about 400 to 460 units a month, usually because one AC runs long hours or a second AC is used occasionally. Below about 390 units, 3kW is the better buy; at 500 units or more, look at 5kW.
Daily Life on 15 Units
About 15.4 units a day covers fans, lights, fridge, TV and washing machine plus one 1.5 ton inverter AC for around 8 hours, or two ACs for shorter spells.
Panels, Roof and Inverter for 4kW
Eight 550 W panels (or seven of 600 W+) need 320 to 400 sq. ft. of shadow-free roof. A 4 kW inverter is the usual match, and 3.5 kW also works because the array can be up to about 1.2 times the inverter rating. Watch for "4kW" quotes with seven 545 W panels: that is only 3.8 kW.
Single Phase or Three Phase at 4kW?
Many DISCOMs accept 4kW on single phase, but some ask for three phase above 3 to 4kW. Confirm this and a sanctioned load of 4kW or more before you order, so net metering is not delayed.
Bhopal Example: ₹1.54 Lakh After Subsidy
A Bhopal home pays about ₹2,32,000 for 4kW on-grid; after the ₹78,000 subsidy it costs about ₹1,54,000. Bhopal's 5.0 peak sun hours give about 16 units a day (480 a month), worth up to ₹3,240 a month at the ₹7.5 tariff.
Common 4kW Missteps
- Buying 4kW for the subsidy. It stops growing at 3kW; buy the fourth kilowatt for your units.
- Sizing from a winter bill. Use a 12-month average so summer AC use is counted.
- Skipping the phase check. A late phase upgrade can hold up net metering for weeks.
Behind the 4kW Numbers
Daily units = 4 kW × Peak sun hours × 0.8
Price after subsidy = Price − Subsidy
Monthly saving ≈ Monthly units × Tariff × 0.9
Assumed rates
- Cost: on-grid ₹58,000/kW, hybrid ₹72,000/kW, off-grid ₹85,000/kW, ±10%
- Output: city peak sun hours × 0.8
- Saving: about 90% of generation offsets billed units
