5kW Solar System Price List
| System | Price | Subsidy | Net |
| On-grid | ₹2,61,000 – ₹3,19,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹1,83,000 – ₹2,41,000 |
| Hybrid (with battery) | ₹3,24,000 – ₹3,96,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹2,46,000 – ₹3,18,000 |
| Off-grid | ₹3,82,500 – ₹4,67,500 | ₹0 | ₹3,82,500 – ₹4,67,500 |
The subsidy is capped at ₹78,000, so the two kilowatts above 3kW are paid in full. The price covers ten 550 W panels, a 5 kW inverter, structure, cabling, earthing and installation.
Two ACs, a Geyser and Everything Else
A 5kW system's 19.2 units a day covers a large household: two 1.5 ton inverter ACs at 7 to 10 units each on a summer day, a geyser in winter, and all everyday appliances. It suits bills of ₹3,800 to ₹5,500 (500 to 650 units). A third AC can run if the inverter allows, but its energy then comes from the grid.
The Three-Phase Question
Several DISCOMs require a three-phase connection at or above 5kW. Check your connection and sanctioned load first: a phase upgrade adds weeks and a few thousand rupees, and applying late can stall net metering after the panels are already on the roof.
Ten Panels Need 400 – 500 sq. ft.
Ten 550 W panels (or nine 600 W+) need 400 to 500 sq. ft. of shadow-free roof with spacing. Squeezing them into 350 sq. ft. shades the rows in winter and costs more output than it saves.
Ludhiana Example: 636 Units a Month
A Ludhiana home pays about ₹2,90,000 for 5kW on-grid; after the ₹78,000 subsidy it costs about ₹2,12,000. Punjab's 5.3 peak sun hours give about 21.2 units a day (636 a month), worth up to ₹4,293 a month at the ₹7.5 tariff.
When 5kW Is Too Much
- Consumption below about 450 units a month: the extra kilowatts mostly export at about ₹3 a unit.
- A roof under 400 usable sq. ft.: consider 4kW with high-wattage panels instead.
- A single-phase sanction you cannot upgrade: check before ordering.
- Planning an EV soon? Then 5kW is right; ask for a spare conduit to the parking during installation.
How We Calculate 5kW Figures
Daily units = 5 kW × Peak sun hours × 0.8
Net cost = Gross cost − ₹78,000 cap − State top-up
Monthly saving ≈ Monthly units × Tariff × 0.9
Rates in this model
- Cost: ₹58,000/kW on-grid, ₹72,000 hybrid, ₹85,000 off-grid, ±10%
- Output: city peak sun hours × 0.8
- Saving: about 90% of generation offsets billed units
