10kW Solar Power Plant Cost in India (2026)
| Plant type | Cost | Subsidy | After subsidy |
| On-grid | ₹5,22,000 – ₹6,38,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹4,44,000 – ₹5,60,000 |
| Hybrid (with battery) | ₹6,48,000 – ₹7,92,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹5,70,000 – ₹7,14,000 |
| Off-grid | ₹7,65,000 – ₹9,35,000 | ₹0 | ₹7,65,000 – ₹9,35,000 |
At this size the subsidy is a small share of the cost, so compare quotes on price per kW. A complete quote covers 17 to 19 panels, a three-phase 10 kW inverter, an engineered structure, cabling, earthing and installation.
Who Needs 10kW?
Villas, duplexes, joint families and small offices with bills of ₹7,500 to ₹11,000 a month (900 to 1,300 units). Below about 700 units, a 10kW plant mostly exports surplus at low rates; a 5kW to 7kW system fits better.
EVs, Several ACs and 38 Units a Day
About 38.4 units a day runs three or four ACs in season plus all household loads, or several ACs and an electric car: a 3 kW home charger uses about 9 units per 3-hour session. Charging the car in daylight uses the solar power directly.
Three-Phase Supply and the Net-Metering Ceiling
Three-phase supply and a sanctioned load of 10kW or more are prerequisites almost everywhere. Some states also cap residential net metering at 10kW, which makes it the practical ceiling for a home; anything larger may need commercial treatment. Confirm both with your DISCOM before design.
19 Panels: Structure Matters
Nineteen 550 W panels need 800 to 1,000 sq. ft. and catch real wind. Ask for wind-load calculations on elevated or high-rise structures; structure engineering and three-phase equipment absorb some of the per-kW savings you might expect at this size.
Visakhapatnam Example: ₹5.02 Lakh Net
A Visakhapatnam home pays about ₹5,80,000 for a 10kW on-grid plant; the capped ₹78,000 subsidy leaves about ₹5,02,000. At 4.8 peak sun hours it makes about 38.4 units a day (1,152 a month), worth up to ₹7,776 a month at the ₹7.5 tariff.
Keeping a Large System Earning
- Use the inverter's monitoring app and compare monthly output with the figures above; a failed string at this size loses money every week.
- Clean panels monthly in dry months; dust costs 5 to 15% of output.
- Recheck savings after each tariff revision; higher tariffs make the plant more valuable.
The Method Behind the 10kW Numbers
Daily units = 10 kW × Peak sun hours × 0.8
After subsidy = Cost − ₹78,000
Monthly saving ≈ Monthly units × Tariff × 0.9
Figures we assume
- Cost: ₹58,000/kW on-grid, ₹72,000 hybrid, ₹85,000 off-grid, ±10%
- Output: city peak sun hours × 0.8
- Saving: about 90% of generation offsets billed units
