2kW Solar System Price With and Without Subsidy
| Type | Before subsidy | Central subsidy | After subsidy |
| On-grid | ₹1,04,400 – ₹1,27,600 | ₹60,000 | ₹44,400 – ₹67,600 |
| Hybrid (with battery) | ₹1,29,600 – ₹1,58,400 | ₹60,000 | ₹69,600 – ₹98,400 |
| Off-grid | ₹1,53,000 – ₹1,87,000 | ₹0 | ₹1,53,000 – ₹1,87,000 |
States that pay extra at 2kW
| State | State top-up | On-grid cost after both (approx.) |
| Uttar Pradesh | ₹30,000 | about ₹26,000 |
| Assam | ₹30,000 | about ₹26,000 |
| Delhi | ₹20,000 | about ₹36,000 |
The installed price covers four 550 W panels, a 2 kW inverter, structure, cabling, earthing and fitting; net-metering charges are usually billed separately by the DISCOM.
Is 2kW Enough for a 2BHK?
For most non-AC or single-cooler 2BHK homes, yes. 2kW suits bills of about ₹1,400 to ₹2,200 (200 to 260 units) and runs everything a 1kW system does plus a washing machine, water pump, cooler and limited use of a 1 ton AC; that AC alone uses about 7.2 units in 8 hours. If an AC is planned, read the 3kW page: the third kilowatt earns another ₹18,000 of subsidy.
Output Month by Month
The 230-unit monthly average hides a seasonal swing. Typical north and central India pattern:
| Months | Share of average | 2kW units (approx.) |
| March – May | 115 – 118% | 265 – 271 |
| October – February | 92 – 105% | 212 – 242 |
| June and September | about 90% | about 207 |
| July – August | 65 – 70% | 150 – 161 |
Net metering banks the summer surplus against the monsoon dip, so judge the system on the yearly total.
Fitting Four Panels on Your Roof
Four 550 W panels, each about 2.28 m × 1.13 m, need 160 to 200 sq. ft. with spacing. Leave room for a fifth and sixth panel if you can: adding them later is cheap when the structure was planned for it.
Varanasi Example: Two Subsidies, ₹26,000 Net
A Varanasi home pays about ₹1,16,000 for 2kW on-grid. The ₹60,000 central subsidy and Uttar Pradesh's ₹30,000 top-up bring the cost to about ₹26,000. At 4.5 peak sun hours it makes about 7.2 units a day (216 a month), worth up to ₹1,361 a month at the ₹7 tariff: payback in under two years.
2kW Pitfalls
- Stopping just short of 3kW. Near 300 units a month, 3kW is often cheaper per useful unit.
- Missing your state top-up. In Delhi, UP and Assam it changes the economics completely.
- Sizing from a January bill. A ₹1,800 winter bill that becomes ₹2,800 in June points to 3kW.
- Low sanctioned load. Standard single-phase connections carry 2kW; just confirm your sanction is 2kW or more.
The Formula Behind This Page
Daily units = 2 kW × Peak sun hours × 0.8
Cost after subsidy = Installed price − Central subsidy − State top-up
Monthly saving ≈ Monthly units × Tariff × 0.9
What we keep fixed
- Price: ₹58,000/kW on-grid, ₹72,000 hybrid, ₹85,000 off-grid, ±10%
- Seasonal shares: indicative pattern for north and central India
- Saving: about 90% of generation offsets billed units
